The Chat screen is where you talk to an AI model. The message box is at the bottom of the screen, and the conversation is above it.

Start a conversation

Open a new chat

Click Chat in the sidebar. A New Chat opens with the text “How can I help you today?” and some example prompts. Click an example prompt to put it in the message box.

Choose a model

Click the model name in the message box to open the Select model list. Pick the model that you want to use. RelayHub has models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI.

Type your message

Type in the Ask anything… box. Press Enter to send the message. Press Shift+Enter to start a new line.

Read the answer

The answer shows word by word while the model writes it. To stop the answer, click the Stop generating button.
When the AI uses tools for an answer, a list of steps shows above the answer. See Steps of an Answer. RelayHub saves the conversation when you send the first message. It also gives the conversation a title from the first messages.

Choose a model

You can change the model at any time in a conversation. The conversation keeps your choice. When an agent or a skill sets the model, the model name is locked and you cannot change it.
Use a fast model for everyday questions. Change to a more capable model for deep reasoning or complex analysis. For the list of models, see Supported Models.

Options in the message box

Click the + button (Attach and options) in the message box to see these options: Each conversation keeps its own settings. When you come back to a conversation later, the settings are the same as before. A change applies to the next message that you send. It does not change the earlier answers.

Chat History

Every conversation is saved. To find a past conversation, open the Chat group in the sidebar and click Chat History. A dialog opens over the screen that you are on.
  • The Mine tab shows your own conversations. The Shared with me tab shows the conversations that other people share with you.
  • Type in the Search your chat history… box to find a conversation by its title or by the text of its messages.
  • Click a conversation to open it. Press Esc to close the dialog.
To rename or delete one of your own conversations, use the Rename and Delete buttons on its row in Chat History. You cannot rename or delete a conversation that someone shares with you.
A deleted conversation cannot come back. If you shared the conversation, the other people also lose it. Make sure that no one needs the conversation before you delete it.

Reactions

The assistant or an agent can put one emoji on your message, the same as a person taps a reaction in a chat app. The emoji shows as a small round mark on the lower edge of your message. Point to it to see who put it there.
  • A reaction never replaces an answer. The assistant still answers in text.
  • The assistant does not react to every message, and it does not react when the talk is formal or tense.
  • You cannot remove a reaction that the assistant put on your message.
  • In a shared conversation, everyone sees the reaction.

Get a new answer

If an answer is not what you want, click the Regenerate response button below the answer. The model writes a new answer to the same message.

Long tool results

Some tools give back a very long result, for example a long web page, a large document or the output of a command. RelayHub keeps a long result whole. The AI reads its start, and it searches the rest when it needs a part of it. The activity panel then shows Reading a saved result. Nothing in the result is lost, so the AI does not have to run the tool again.
  • A result is kept for 90 days. When you delete the conversation, its results are deleted within two days.
  • Only you can use the results of your own messages. Another person in a shared chat cannot read them.
  • The AI can give a long result or the text of one of your files to another tool without copying it. For example, ask “Save that whole article as a text file”. When the tool asks for your approval, the card shows the size of the text, for example “[stored output of web_fetch: 120,345 characters, version 3f2a9c1e]”, not the text itself. If the text changes after you approve, the call does not run, and you are asked again.
The AI can only give another tool the text of a file that you can open yourself. The limit for the text that goes into one tool call is 8 MB.
