Overview

When the AI builds something for you — a one-page visual, a report, a deck, a spreadsheet — it appears as a card in the chat and opens in the Workbench, a panel on the right of the chat. The Workbench is where you look at the finished thing without leaving the conversation or downloading it first. Click Open in workbench on any file card to load it.

Viewing an artifact

The Workbench has three tabs: A page built at a fixed size — a 1920x1080 slide, for example — is scaled down to fit the panel, so you see the whole design rather than a corner of it. The proportions are preserved, so what you see is what prints. Switch between Fit and 100% in the panel header: Fit shows the whole page, 100% shows it at its authored size so you can check small type.

What each kind of file looks like

Spreadsheets and documents show the whole file here, not the short preview on the chat card. If a file is larger than the panel will load, the bottom of the panel says how many rows or lines it is showing out of the total. Anything the Workbench cannot display — a .zip, for instance — keeps its download card, rather than opening a panel that has nothing to show.

Asking for a change

The panel is usually where you notice what needs changing. Click Refine in the panel header and the chat composer is filled in with the file’s name, ready for you to finish the sentence — “In quarterly-budget.xlsx, please change the Q3 total to…” You stay looking at the file while you describe the change.

Making it bigger

Three ways, depending on how much room you want:

Drag the edge

Drag the left edge of the panel to any width. Your choice is remembered for next time. The chat pane keeps a minimum width so it is never crushed.

Maximise

Click the Maximise button in the panel header to expand it as wide as the window allows. Click Restore to return to your chosen width.

Open the file itself

Use Download to open the artifact in its own application — full screen, at full size, and printable.
On a narrow screen the Workbench opens as a full-screen overlay instead of competing with the chat for room.

Downloading and sharing

  • Download saves the artifact to your computer.
  • Copy link copies a link to the file for sharing.
  • Close hides the panel; the file card stays in the chat, so you can reopen it at any time.

Changing what was built

You do not need to start over. Ask for the change in the chat and the AI edits the existing file rather than rebuilding it:
“No, make the headline smaller and use a deep teal accent. Keep everything else exactly as it is.”
Everything you did not mention stays exactly as it was, and the Workbench refreshes with the updated version.

Checks the AI runs before handing a file over

Files are opened and inspected automatically before you see them. A page is rendered and checked for text that is cut off, elements that run off the edge, and type too small to read. A deck is checked for blank slides and the slide count you asked for. A spreadsheet is checked for working formulas when you asked for formulas. If a check fails, the AI repairs the file and tells you what it changed, rather than handing you something that does not work.
