A live document is a document that the AI and people edit at the same time. The AI writes one section at a time. You and your coworkers type in the same document, and each person has a caret with a name. RelayHub saves every change, so the document has no Save button.

Where live documents show

In the Workbench, click Open the full page to open the document on its own page.

Find a document on the Docs page

The Docs page has a table with the columns Title, Owner, Access and Edited.
  • Click All, Mine or Shared with me to filter the list.
  • Type in Search by title to find a document by its title.
  • Click a row to open the document.
  • Click New document to start an empty document with the title “Untitled”.
The owner of a document sees a Delete icon on its row. Click it, then click Delete in the message “Delete this document?”.
A deleted document is deleted for every person who can open it. You cannot undo the deletion.

Ask the AI to write a document

1

Write the request in the chat

For example: “Write a one-page plan for the Q4 launch.”
2

Watch the document open

The AI makes the document and gives it a title. The document opens in the Workbench, and the AI writes the sections one at a time.
3

Ask for a change

Write the change in the chat, for example “Rewrite the Risks section in shorter sentences” or “Add a section about the budget after the timeline”. When the document is open in the Workbench, the AI knows which document you mean.
A section starts at a heading. The AI adds a new section, or writes a section again. It does not change the sections that you did not ask about.

Watch the AI write

When the AI writes a section, the words show one at a time with a caret named RelayHub AI. In a bot’s document, the caret has the name of the bot. The line at the top of the document says RelayHub AI is writing (or the name of the bot).
  • The full section is already saved when the words start to show. The word-by-word display is only on your screen, and it takes 4 seconds at most.
  • If you type, or put your caret in that section, the rest of the section shows at once.
  • If your computer is set to reduce motion, the section shows at once with a short highlight.

Edit together

Several people can type in a document at the same time.
  • Each person has a caret with a name tag and a color.
  • The row at the top of the document shows the first names of the other people who have the document open. After five names, it shows “and N more”.
  • Use the toolbar for Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, Inline code, Link, Bulleted list, Numbered list, Task list, Table and Code block.
  • A link must start with http, https or mailto.

When a person types in a section

The AI does not write over a section that a person is typing in.
  • A section is busy when a person with edit access has the caret in it and typed in it in the last 8 seconds.
  • If the AI tries to write a busy section, nothing in the section changes. The AI gets the message “A person is typing in this section now. Write another section, or try this one again later.” It then writes another section, or it tries the same section again later.
  • You see no message in the document. Your words stay as you typed them.
  • If a person changed part of a section after the AI read it, the AI keeps the part that the person changed. The AI then reads the section again and keeps your words.
  • A person who only opens the document, or only moves the caret, does not make a section busy. People who can only view a document never make a section busy.

The title

The title is at the top of the document.
  • A long title shows two lines and then an ellipsis (…). Point at the title to see the full title.
  • To change the title, click it. The field then shows the full title. Press Enter to save it, or Escape to cancel.
  • Only the owner and people with edit access can change the title. A title can have 200 characters at most.
  • The Docs list and the document card in the chat show the title with the same rule.

Comments

1

Select text

Select the text that the comment is about.
2

Click Comment

Click the comment button in the toolbar. The Comments panel opens.
3

Write the comment

Type in Add a comment, then click Post. You can also press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac).
The commented text gets a light blue background.
  • People who can only view a document can comment too.
  • Click a comment to reply to it, or click Resolve to close the thread.
  • Click Show resolved to see the resolved threads, and Reopen to open one again.
  • The author of a comment and the owner of the document can delete a comment.
  • If a person deletes the commented text, the thread shows “Text removed” with the text that it had.
  • The Comments panel gets new comments from other people every 15 seconds.
  • Click Comments at the top of the document to show or hide the panel.

Send a comment to the AI

The AI can change the commented text for you and reply in the thread with what it changed. You need Can edit on the document.
1

Write the comment

Write what you want changed, for example “Make this paragraph shorter”.
2

Send it to the AI

Click the comment, then click Send to AI. You can also start a comment or a reply with @AI.
3

Read the reply

The thread shows Working on it. for a few seconds. Then the AI changes the section of the commented text and replies in plain words with what it changed, or why it changed nothing.
  • The AI changes only the section that holds the commented text. Everyone in the document sees the change appear live, and the change is marked as RelayHub AI for your name.
  • If someone else can read the document, the AI does not change it at once. Its reply shows the new text with Apply and Discard. Only you can apply or discard it. If the text changed after the reply, Apply changes nothing and the reply says so. Click Send to AI again for a new proposal.
  • If a person types in the commented text while the AI writes, the AI keeps their words and changes nothing. The reply says so.
  • If the commented text was deleted, the AI changes nothing and says so.
  • The AI uses the chat model that you chose, and the use counts as yours.
  • The AI follows only your words in the thread. It does not follow instructions that are written in the document or in the comments of other people.

Share a document and who has access

Click Share. Only the owner can change the access. Other people see who has access. Only people added in General access means that only the owner, the invited people and the people in the chat can open the document. If a person has access in more than one way, the highest level applies.

What each level can do

When the owner changes your access, an open document checks your access again. The top line then shows Checking your access.

Export and print

Click Export, then click one of these:
  • PDF
  • Markdown, a .md file with the headings, lists, tables and links of the document
  • Plain text
  • Print, which opens the print dialog of your browser. The printout does not show the toolbar, the comments or the carets.
The export waits until your last change is saved, so the file has your newest words.

Limits

Messages you can see

When a user or a workspace is deleted

  • When an administrator deletes a user, the documents of that user move to the administrator who deleted the user. The invited people and the general access stay the same. The documents are not deleted.
  • When a workspace is deleted, its documents change to Only people added. The owners keep their documents. The documents are not deleted.
